Day to Wear Purple in Honour of the Bullied Teens

Today's been chosen as the day to wear purple in honour of the 6 teens who took their lives because they were bullied about being gay or because they were thought to be gay; as well as for all teens bullied for being gay.  Everyone should wear their purple to show that these kids are not alone!  Purple represent "spirit" in the Pride Flag and that's why we're wearing purple.

Introducing Sex Into a New Relationship - cont'd

I was watching Brothers and Sisters all last night during my night shift and there was a part of an episode that made me think of this question about how many dates before sex thing. In the episode, one of the women who was dating the guy hadn't had sex even after having gone out numerous time (the exact number wasn't mentioned). The couple did say they wanted to go slow; however, her family was giving her a hard time about not having had sex with him yet. There was comments made that "if he hasn't tried to jump your bones yet he must be gay", "or he has an STD". Shows you.....even pop culture tells us that we should be having sex shortly after (and sometimes before) dating.

Dinner with my Baba

I talked in my last post "Recap of the Past 24 Hours" that I was going to be going for dinner with my grandma, and I did go on Monday with her. We went for a walk in Major Hill Park and then started our way through the Market to try and find a restaurant that we wanted to eat at. While walking, my sister called to say that she wanted to come with us for supper so I invited her and told her to join us. We ended up deciding to go to Stella; it's one of my favourite nicer places in the market that has really good italian food and a great atmosphere. The three of us ordered and talked, and when the food arrived, my sister had two bites then looked uber pale and said she wasn't feeling well and excused herself to the bathroom. When she came back she said that she had to go home cause she wasn't feeling good and she wanted to lay down. So then it was back to just Baba and me like the original plan. This was the plan because I came out to my grandma over this supper; this was important as she's the only family member who doesn't know and I'm super close with her so I wanted to do it in person rather than my mom telling her. I wasn't nervous to tell her cause we're so close, but I had NO clue how she'd react - anyone who knows Baba knows she's often focused on her own thoughts and her own world and is very oblivious to her surroundings....this was no different. haha. I told her "I'm gay" and she responded with, "You're good? That's good! I'm happy that you're good!" hahaha. After recaping what she just missed, we had a really awesome conversation about it (actually way better than the one with my mom a few years ago! lol.) Who'd have thought Baba would be the best convo and had the best questions - not like my mom's first question of "does this mean you're going to start sleeping with everyone?" Hahaha. So it was a good convo, great supper, and amazing company! The evening couldn't have gone better, cause after bringing my grandma back to the hotel, Emilie and Laurice finished graduating so I met them at the National Art Center, took a couple pics and then went to Emilie's where the three of us sat around, got drunk and went to bed finally around 3am only to have to be up at 7:45 for my 8am class. It was all worth it!

Mark Wahlberg's Catholic Priest Told Him Not To Do Brokeback

Mark Wahlberg turned down the role of Brokeback Mountain because priest advised him not to take the role. Wahlberg in a 2007 interview:

"I met with Ang Lee on that movie, I read 15 pages of the script and got a little creeped out. It was very graphic, descriptive - the spitting on the hand, getting ready to do the thing. I told Ang Lee, 'I like you, you're a talented guy, if you want to talk about it more...' Thankfully, he didn't...I didn't rush to see Brokeback, it's just not my deal... Obviously, it was done in taste - look how it was received."

Now, the National Enquirer reports that Wahlberg turned down the role on the advice of his priest:

"The 38-year-old reformed bad boy relies on his closest confidante and longtime religious mentor, the Rev. James Flavin, to help him pick and choose his parts. 'Mark is a practicing Catholic, and he never makes a final decision on a starring role until Father Flavin gives his OK,' an insider revealed to The Enquirer. 'Mark says he owes his career to Father Flavin.' ... 'Father Flavin pushes Mark to honor his religious roots,' said the source. 'Even though Mark was offered one of the leads in Brokeback Mountain, he passed because of the gay subject matter, which clashes with Catholic doctrine.'"

Of course, playing a coke and meth-addicted hustler with a 10-inch penis in Boogie Nights was fine.

Alledgedly Gay Twin Brother Of Late Polish President To Run For Office

Jaraslaw Kaczynski, the allegedly gay twin brother of late Polish President Lech Kaczynski, plans to run to replace him, the Associated Press reports:

"Jaroslaw Kaczynski said he will run to continue the mission of his brother and others killed in the crash. 'The good of Poland is a common duty that requires an ability to overcome personal suffering, to undertake the task despite a personal tragedy,' Kaczynski said. 'This is why I have taken the decision to run for the president of Poland. I have the family's support in this decision."

New Pope Benedict Condoms?

The Pope's visit to the UK in September will go on as planned, despite the disclosure over the weekend of a memo written by a staffer at the British Foreign Office which mocked Benedict and the Vatican, suggesting a provocative itinerary which included the launch of a line of Pop condoms, the blessing of a gay civil partnership, open an abortion ward, and a speech on equality.
